Developed by former gymnast and dancer Christopher Harrison, AntiGravity® Yoga provides a workout that allows you to stretch and strengthen without putting stress on your joints or compressing your vertebrae.
The key to AntiGravity® Yoga is the hammock, a swath of silky fabric that acts as your support system. Your hammock is your dance partner. Using the hammock, you learn to invert and hang suspended in the air. The hammock supports your hips for forward bends and backbends. It acts as your seat for any number of variations of exercises.
It can be looped around one foot as you stand on the other for versions, applications that are reminiscent of an Iyengar-style ropes wall. Best of all, the hammock wraps you in your own little cocoon for a swaying or chilling out.
All moves are derived from Pilates, dance, and calisthenics, suspension training, as well as yoga. Your body will change shape quickly and easily creating strength a longer and leaner body and flexibility. AntiGravity® yoga poses offer a new way to cultivate strength and flexibility.
This practice of awareness which merges both the quest for mindful body, spirit & physical expansion, the pursuit of enlightenment has been a natural extension of all of our growth.
Book a group of 10 friends or team building event – and get the 11th hammock free. Come and hang out with us and meet your new dance partner— It’s a great way to get fit, shape your body while lifting your spirit
AntiGravity® Yoga Philosophy
Fun
AntiGravity® denotes combating the laws of physics, but it also means against graveness — in other words, stay light and have fun! When you laugh you are working your risible muscles. In AntiGravity® Yoga, we are intent on keeping them in shape.
Awareness
Yoga is a practice of awareness in body, mind, and spirit. Finding “now presence” is the aim of yoga practice. It is in the present moment that you are safe, that you are in flow with the universe and that you experience joy.
Accessible
Fitness techniques are not just for those who are physically gifted. Antigravity yoga is for everyone. AntiGravity® Yoga is easily modified to accommodate all fitness levels. It has been our desire to make AntiGravity® Yoga accessible to anyone who is sincerely pursuing health.
Inspiration
Inspiration is the key to sticking with a fitness program. AntiGravity® is a creative technique based on a movement art form that will inspire your fitness. The process is extremely rewarding, not only based on the physical results one will receive, but also on the satisfaction of creative accomplishment.
Anti-Aging
AntiGravity® denotes fighting against the aging effects of gravity. As the body ages, the joints need to be pushed to support mobility. The muscles need to be worked to keep up proper alignment and the discs need to be hydrated to decrease deterioration. If we don’t use it, we lose it.
Grace
Physical grace comes from trained kinaesthetic awareness. AntiGravity®Yoga feelings of pride on creating beauty. Balance, body line, and agility are dependent on fine-tuned proprioception (sensory receptors). This is best accomplished through a range of motion through many physical planes. This kind of conditioning is also a great cross-training technique for other sports, guaranteed to make an athlete faster and give them the competitive edge.
Flight
Although the woman and man were not born with wings, the dream of flight is primal to humans. AntiGravity® Yoga stems from that dream. Participants leave class feeling for a moment that they have “slipped the surly bonds of earth”, sprouted wings and realized the dream of flight.
